Looks like it could be a fun little gore-fest. Anybody planning to see this?

Yes I am planning to see this once it is released. Looks like it is going to be a good one from what I can tell in the trailers.

I wasn't much of a Saw fan: 1 was alright, 2 was bollocks and I think 3 will be worse. As far as descent goes it must fit my new criteria for horror movies. Is it rated R? If so, I'll probably watch it because I can't stand the "horror" movies anymore that are trying to scare the 13 year old girls (by the way, sound familiar to anyone? 13 year old girl demographic?)

You wouldn't perhaps be talking about any of the seminars that we attended would you?

In the first "Saw" Carey Elwes had me in stitches with his grade-Z acting skills. Also, the "surprise" ending was a lot more than my ability to suspend disbelief would allow.
As for "Saw 2", I'd have to include spoilers to explain why it was so damned hilarious, so I won't go in to it here.

I also think the saw movies are more funny than they are scary. I mean they do a good job by trying to hit on what people are afraid of. They got me with the needles. But I definately feel like the overall effect isn't scary.

Exactly. The needle thing was so over-the-top. It does make you wonder how much further they'll go with it in the next installment. I do look at each day as a precious gift nowadays, though-so I guess I did learn something from Jigsaw's preachings.
I also learned to be very nice to terminally-ill psychopaths.

I saw "The Descent" yesterday afternoon-and thought that it was a very effective horror film, especially considering the restrictions of being a low-budget endeavor. Some of the scares are of the "Boo!" variety, but that didn't spoil my enjoyment. The claustrophobic feeling is pretty intense-and I really enjoyed the way they used minimal lighting. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it at least a 7.
Also, the enthusiastic reaction from the girls seated behind me added to the fun. I'll bet the theater crew had some cleaning up to do after those two left the auditorium!

Yea, saw 3 comes out on the 27th of october. And I personally *eyes rest of the board* think it will be GREAT. I LOVE these films *keeps death glare going*, i think the actors do a great job, i think the story lines are wonderful and, face it, its WAAAYYYY better written and more original than most of the crap hollywood shoots out of its sewage pipes lately, horror or otherwise. I love the message in the film, and i'll admit Saw I changed my life and made me appreciate my existance and all of its blessings more than i ever would have.

Thats just MY opinion tho, and im not gonna start spats with my haunting brothers and sisters just cause i like a film and you dont.

But you have to admit, the CAMERA work and Editing are INTENSE...i do editing and camerawork and i know, that stuff is freaking balls out awesome. Up there with Band of Brothers and Battlestar Galactica, jesus.

Im glad to hear Descent was up there with Alien, i might actually spend my money on it now cause, in its day, alien Owned completly.

Just saw The Descent, I'd have to give it 3 out of 4 stars. The beginning was really good and set the mood as they began to explore deep underground caves. Just getting trapped down underneath the earth in the dark is scary enough. I was a little disappointed halfway through, however, as in typical Hollywood fashion they show way too much of the creatures. The mood was already perfect down there and could have used it to their advantage more. All in all it was definetely enjoyable and a very good scary movie.
